Host Activation
All CygNet hosts require user activation. Host activation is a separate process from licensing, although you can also opt to activate a host via the License Manager utility. The purpose of host activation is to protect intellectual property; it is not license validation or management.
When CygNet is initially installed, it is in a TRIAL activation state. This allows the host to run for 30 days. If you don’t activate the host before the end of the 30-day period, the activation state will change to EXPIRED.
Note: CygNet hosts do not shut down automatically when they fall out of activation compliance. You will, however, receive warnings in various CygNet client applications (CygNet Explorer, CygNet Studio, CygNet Vision, and FMS Explorer) if a host is not activated. Best practice recommends using the Service Monitoring Service (SVCMON) to monitor status and set up notifications.
Activation Warnings
The system checks host activation state and provides helpful user warnings if host activation issues are found, so they can be communicated and resolved. See Host Activation Warnings for more information.
Verifying Activation
When host activation status changes to a deactivated state, for various reasons, the host must be activated and verified via an Activation or "Site" key. See Host Activation Verification for more information.
Note: The host Activation (or "Site") Key must be obtained from CygNet Support. There is no time limit between the time that you receive a key and the time it must be installed on the host server.
Activating a CygNet Host
Use either the CygNet Host Manager utility or the CygNet License Manager utility to activate a CygNet host.
- Use CygNet Host Manager to add multiple hosts on the same machine where the Host Manager utility is running, and to manage their Start, Stop, and service domain settings. Each host must be activated using the instance of CygNet Host Manager running from its respective \Utilities or \Services folder. See CygNet Host Manager Utility for more information.
- Use CygNet License Manager in a multi-host system to request Activation Keys for all hosts at the same time. You can only activate one host at a time, however. See CygNet License Manager Utility for more information.
